Synopsis

The phenomenon of superconductivity, zero resistance, perfect diamagnetism, Meissner effect, energy gap, isotope effect, thermodynamic transition, London’s equation, coherence length, Landau theory, Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) theory, flux quantization, type-I and type-II superconductors, vortex state, tunnelling of single particle and Josephson tunnelling (AC and DC).  Copper oxide base high temperature superconductors: yttrium, bismuth, thallium and mercury systems. Material and preparation methods, elastic, optical, thermal and electronic properties, phase diagram and critical current density.  Technology and applications; sensors, tapes and conductors, energy storage, current limiter, motor, transformer, magnetic resonance imaging and filter.

Objective
